Submitted by Bob McClain Entwining Two Twin Cities InstitutionsEveryone knows the Foshay Tower in Minneapolis. And most Twin Cities residents are probably familiar with one of the nine Key’s restaurants. So it was a natural to combine the two. I sat in the back of the Foshay Key’s, one afternoon, with Joe Schlaebam the General Manager and “grilled” him for “key” information about the restaurant. He was only too happy to comply. He was especially excited that Key’s had been asked to stay when the building was cleared of tenants to convert the building to a very exclusive W hotel. Joe made it a point that I explain that Key’s offers breakfast, lunch and dinner all day long. In other words, you can get anything on the menu any time of day. This is because everything is made from scratch from ingredients on hand. When I asked him what a person should try the first time they come, he smiled and told me, “the omelets, especially the Everything Omelet.” Of course, Key’s will make any kind of omelet you can dream up. Which can make “breakfast anytime” a lot of fun. Joe told me that Key’s has a reduced price daily special of Walleye Almondine with rice pilaf. And this Key’s has something you won’t find in any other Keys restaurant. A full bar. Happy Hour is 7 days a week from 3 – 7pm with 2-for-1 on rails and beers. Like all Key’s, the prices are reasonable and the portions are gargantuan. Omelets run from $6 to around $10. Sandwiches average $6 to $8. Salads are around $10 and fruit plates $7-$9. Dinners are almost all $11 and they have a nice selection of Vegetarian meals from $7-$11. Key’s at the Foshay Bar & Grill is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday from 6:30am -10:00pm. Saturday from 7am to 10pm and Sunday from 8am until 10pm. They also offer free delivery until 9pm. For more information, call |
