Pizza In A Loft

With all the lofts going up in Downtown Minneapolis, downtown isn’t so much about going out anymore as it is about staying in. In town, that is. And one of the fun things about Pizza Luce is, it feels like a loft. It’s like eating out, at home. And to add to the fun, the employees are more like party guests. With the great food someone else makes and then serves you, it all gets rather confusing when you’re in or out or…

To make up my mind, I hung out one afternoon in the downtown Minneapolis Pizza Luce. I recommend starting out with the Artichoke Dip. Of course, I love artichokes. Or, if you want to get a feel for everything, you’re in luck. They offer a Sampler that is also available Vegan upon request. The Sampler is $10.99. Most of the appetizers average around seven dollars.

When I talked to the General Manager, he told me that Pizza Luce is all about the pizza. When I asked him what a newbie should try, he said, “Pick a pizza.” Then he expanded on that theme and suggested for something really interesting, try the Baked Potato Pizza. Or, for an old standby that will automatically make you feel at home, go for the Classic. It’s what other places might call a Supreme. Figure on spending anywhere from $12 - $22 for a pizza.

The employees were a lot of fun. Seems like they’re more at home at Pizza Luce than anywhere else. And the décor has a real warmth to it. The colors seem very Tuscan. The floors are the original old oak slats and one of the brick walls is exposed. Large Italian posters adorn the walls and translucent ball lights float from the high ceilings. If you live in a loft, you’ll feel right at home here too. There are plenty of booths and the bar is stocked with a nice selection of microbrews. I also found another reason why the employees like being there so much. Most of the menu ideas are developed from employee suggestions. So if an employee recommends an item to you, it was probably their idea. Pizza Luce has won plenty of awards for their food. Maybe that’s why.

Pizza Luce has five Twin Cities locations. The downtown Minneapolis store is at 119 N. 4th Street and their number is 612-333-7359. They are open from 11am – 2:30am Sunday thru Thursday and 11am – 3:30am Friday and Saturday.
