Shakopee has a secret. Well, it’s not a very good secret. I seem to read articles about this restaurant all the time. But I never seem to hear anyone mention it outside of Shakopee. And that’s a shame. Because Dangerfield’s is rated one of the top restaurants in the Twin Cities. From the outside, Dangerfield’s seems very unassuming. However, when you walk in the door, you might double check to make sure your shirt’s tucked in and there’s a shine on your shoes. This is a large, elegant space. The purple walls and ceiling combined with lots of rich woods make you feel like you’re in for a treat. And the menu confirms it. Dangerfield’s has a menu section called Entrees of Distinction. To give you a “taste” of what’s in this section, I suggest the following: Bleu Cheese-crusted Medallions (the owner’s favorite), Crab Stuffed Walleye, Herb-crusted Rack of Lamb with Raspberry-chipotle sauce. If I haven’t enticed you with one of these options, you really need to see a doctor. The entrees generally run from $17 to $26. The soups and appetizers can run from $3.50 to $10 dollars and include some truly unique selections such as 1919 Root Beer BBQ Shrimp and Steamed Mussels Provencal. They also offer burgers and sandwich wraps. If you’re looking for something green, they have a nice selection of salads but there’s one I just have to describe: breaded walleye fingers placed on top of a bed of romaine tossed in a kiwi poppy seed dressing with fresh strawberry, mandarin oranges, black olives and red onion for $9.99. Dessert is presented on a tray after dinner. Dangerfield’s has a spacious bar with a full selection of beer, wine and premium liquors. Happy Hour runs from 4-6pm with a complete buffet, reduced prices and…a player piano. They offer Sunday Brunch from 10:00am to 2:00pm with reservations recommended. $13.99 for adults and $7.49 for 12 and under. If you need a private room for a personal or business function, they have three rooms seating anywhere from 10 – 140. For catering call 952-445-2245. They are open Monday –Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday & Saturday 11am-11pm, Sunday brunch is 10am-2pm, and Sunday dinner is 2pm until 10pm. They are located at 1583 1st Avenue East in Shakopee. By the way, if the weather is nice, don’t forget to check out their fully screened, multi-level deck that overlooks the Minnesota River! Story by Bob McClain |
