Everyone wants to feel successful. Regardless of whether your bank account says you are. So it’s really nice to take yourself out to breakfast or lunch at a place that doesn’t make you spend a lot, but makes you feel like you did. That was the impression I got at Jensen’s Café.

Outside the front door, there’s a play area for kids. Great idea for when families have to wait. Walking in the door, you are faced by attractive stone walls, large glass windows that seem to make the place feel roomy and spacious, a fireplace, and a surprising number of patrons. This place is busy! I was curious what their secret was so I grabbed a menu and sat down at a table while I waited for Laurie Jensen, the proprietor.

They have a very extensive menu. Even though they offer Parmesan Walleye for $9.45 and Sautéed Walleye for $8.95, four specialty sandwiches, four soup and salad selections, burgers, salads, and melts, Laurie told me that they sell more breakfasts at lunch than they do lunches! So we explored the breakfast menu. I was surprised to find they serve their Egg Benedict dishes on a pancake and offer four different homemade Hollandaise sauces. They also serve soufflé-style omelets which contrast nicely with their thick-cut bacon.

Laurie told me their combo creations are also a big hit. You can choose from a waffle/French toast/pancakes, and egg dish, meat of your choice, and a potato dish. It looked like pretty much everything on the breakfast menu runs somewhere between $6 and $9 dollars. The lunch menu runs about the same. Pretty reasonable. Laurie also told me that their coffee is sourced from a local importer and roaster and the beans are delivered in the morning still steaming from the roaster.
