Sunsets Restaurant - Wayzata

 Brunch On The Bay

Wayzata Bay. From almost any vantage point, it’s a lovely place. Sunlight shimmering across a rippling carpet of waves; the windsong of dancing canvas braided by the toccata of water on hull. And the view framed by every window at Sunsets of Wayzata is intoxicating. That’s probably why a restaurant has graced this spot since 1917. And it also helps explain why the restaurant is never empty.

Recently remodeled, Sunsets of Wayzata is awash with warm woods, formal brick, and smoky slate. An open sided fireplace pierces the center of the restaurant, separating the bar and dining room from the brunch area. I recently enjoyed the Sunday Brunch there with friends. Whether you’ve just gotten out of church or just crawled out of bed, I can’t think of a better way to laze away a couple of hours.

Admittedly, Sunsets is the kind of place where you can find someone making million dollar deals over oatmeal. But anyone can find solace in the extensive and friendly menu. Sunsets offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. And on Sunday, brunch is from 9:30am until 2pm. Breakfast includes a wide assortment of juices, cereals, fruit and yogurt. They also have granola, muffins, and as I mentioned, oatmeal. If you are looking for something warm, they have a variety of egg dishes, pancakes, waffles, sourdough French toast, and sides.

Lunch carries soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers. They also offer a steak, chop, and seafood assortment. The there’s the heart-healthy selection including a lovely Chablis Poached Walleye that’s as gentle on the palette as it is on the arteries.

Dinner, while more extensive, is very similar to the lunch menu with prices ranging from $7.75 for the Combo burger to $25.95 for the Filet Mignon and Coconut Shrimp. But the really exciting artistry at Sunsets of Wayzata is in the Sunday Brunch. At $14.95 per adult and $7.50 for children 5 – 12, it’s not only great food in a wonderful setting, it’s also simply a good deal. The presentation is almost as fun as the food. There are plenty of fresh pastries, vegetables, fruit and cheeses. And breakfast is certainly not ignored. However, I have to bring your attention to the Blackened Pork Loin and the Fresh Salmon. I suggest stuffing yourself until you can’t stand up. Sunsets is open Monday thru Saturday from 6:30am until 1am. And Sunday from 9:30am until midnight. During the summer, the patio opens at 11:00am. Sunsets suggests calling for Brunch reservations.
